Levitating Lamp

Levitating Lamp

Hey Everyone,
Today's topic will blow your minds if you haven't heard about it yet. Ever wondered what if lights float around you? without being screwed to a point. Ya, I know most of you wouldn't have wondered about it but many will have had this problem like when your lamp gets broken or you have to replace your lamp due to its fuse being blown. Your lamps may be situated at a particular height not that easily accessible without a stool and it is somewhat risky for some people to climb up a stool and repair it. Or some may forget to turn off power before removing the bulb and this can sometimes be fatal. I know you may wonder pfff, like who would be so dumb. Let us not get ahead of ourselves and assume some people for the sake of this topic who doesn't quite understand the safety precautions.

By the way, screwing a bulb to the ceiling or wall is sooo old. We are in 2019 now and we have to have some cool standards right!!. So, there is an invention which makes the boring lamps which just light up your apartment look so cool.

Ya, you've figured it out right it's the name of the topic and the picture above. "Levitating lamps". Imagine a lamp just floating above and also lights up without any wire. Looks like this thing is straight out of a sci-fi movie but it's a real thing. In future, everyone will decorate their apartments with LED's which float above the ground.

So, How it works?

Flyte

This was invented by the company Kickstarter and this invention is named Flyte. Ya, you heard it. So the operation is pretty simple. It works on magnetic levitation principle that is when two electromagnets of similar poles are placed together they repel each other and depending upon this repulsion the magnet levitates.

In the Flyte circuit there is a wooden base and inside it, you will find an array of magnets and a magnetic Induction charger(If you want to learn more about induction charger click here). When the bulb is placed near the box, the lowermost magnets in the wooden box tends to attract the bulb's base whereas the uppermost magnets repel. This constant attraction and repulsion make the bulb hover few centimetres in the air.

Now as the bulb's base is stable and within the range, the receiver at the bulb's base will now be able to pick up power from the charger block using magnetic induction(To learn about it click here) which supplies enough amount of power to illuminate the LED. This wireless module is capable of transmitting upto 5V and it can be used to charge your smartphone when the bulb is not in the equation.

LUNALUXX

There is another lamp named Lunaluxx created by Elivatrix. This lamp uses maglev technology and suspends the light disk in mid-air. This is the same as the previous concept with small changes. With a permanent magnet at its center, the lamp's light source hovers like a flying saucer it looks futuristic and cool.

As I said it uses maglev technology which uses attraction to suspend the disk above as in the bottom there are electromagnetic coils wounded. When the LED is slid under the lamp high-density remote controlled current pulses at 1000 times per second passes which keeps the disk in mid-air.

It also uses remote phosphor technology as phosphor is coated on the disk. When the blue light is administered on the disk (I mean blue beam), it absorbs the blue light and produces white light. This is highly energy efficient as the blue light absorbs only 2-3 watts but glows with almost 15-20 watts of light.

This lamps comes in a lot of variety and design like a moon or a spaceship etc.

Fact-Flash:

I'm going out of topic for the facts part as I think the whole content itself is an amazing fact. Believe it or not, everyone can see ultraviolet light but it is filtered by the lens in our eyes. People who undergo surgery to remove this can see UV light.
The traffic lights nowadays are replaced by LED lights and this has led to more accidents and car crashes because during winter and really cool climates the snow or ice formation on the traffic lights cannot be melted because of the LED emitting very less heat.
